1. Who we are

This policy explains how Team1 ("we", "us"), handles personal information across all Team1 websites and services, including team1.network and its subdomains, our events and our community. Ava Labs, Inc., the Avalanche Foundation and third-party services we link to (such as Discord, Telegram, X and Luma) have their own privacy policies.

2. What information we collect

  • Contact and identity: name, email, username, profile picture, country, city.
  • Application and profile: application answers, background, social handles, skills, interests, and other information you choose to share.
  • Participation: event registrations and attendance, contributions, submissions, quiz and feedback answers.
  • Communications: emails, messages, comments and meeting notes.
  • Images: photos and videos from events or that you provide.
  • Wallet and shipping details for rewards and merchandise. Wallet addresses and on-chain transactions are public and cannot be deleted from a blockchain.
  • Technical: IP address, browser and device information, logs.
  • Identity verification and AML checks: only when required by law or before we send certain payments, we may ask you to verify your identity and screen you, your wallet addresses and/or related transactions against sanctions, politically-exposed-person and adverse-media lists.

We do not ask for sensitive information such as health, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, religion or political opinions. Please do not include it in free-text fields.

3. How we use information

We use personal information to enable you to access and use the websites and services; review applications and run accounts; organise events and run the community, its chapters and programmes; communicate with you and send newsletters you subscribed to; feature members and events in our public communication; send merchandise and rewards; keep our services secure; understand website usage in aggregate; and comply with the law and protect our rights.

To comply with the law, in some cases, we have a legal obligation to collect or use your personal information. We use it as we believe necessary or appropriate to:

  • Comply with applicable laws, including sanctions, anti-money-laundering (AML), counter-terrorist-financing and know-your-customer (KYC) requirements.
  • Comply with lawful requests and legal process, such as to respond to subpoenas or requests from government authorities.

We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.

4. Our websites and services

All websites. Our analytics is cookieless, stores no IP addresses and only shows us aggregated statistics. Some websites load fonts or images from third-party providers, which receive your IP address. Images you upload are stored at publicly accessible URLs.

Events. You register for events through Luma. We receive your name, email, registration answers and attendance, and may share them with co-organisers and sponsors where the registration form says so. We may take photos and videos at events and use them in our communication; tell the organisers if you do not want to be photographed, or email privacy@team1.network to object to the use of an image of you, and we will stop using it in new publications.

Member portal (members.team1.network):

  • Applications are reviewed by our administrators and by reviewers for your country or chapter.
  • Profiles are visible to signed-in members according to the visibility you choose per field. You appear in the directory only if you opt in. Wallet, shipping and merchandise details are visible only to you and our administrators.
  • Images you upload may be used in our public communication to feature members and events. You can object at any time, and we will stop using the image in new publications.
  • Discord: if you link your account, we sync your Discord roles and record when you join and leave designated voice channels to credit attendance. We do not record voice or messages.
  • Short links: clicks are recorded with IP address, approximate location and device information. Members only see aggregate statistics.

Events platform (events.team1.network):

  • Quizzes: your name, email and score are shown to the event's organisers.
  • Organisers' names, titles, pictures and links are shown on public event pages and, if they choose, on a public profile page.

5. How we share information

We share personal information only as needed for the purposes above, with:

  • Service providers working on our behalf: hosting, storage, email, analytics, event registration, sign-in, identity verification and AML screening, and communication and collaboration tools.
  • Event partners: co-organisers, co-hosts and sponsors, where the registration form says so.
  • Ava Labs, Inc. and the Avalanche Foundation, where needed for the programme, for example for rewards, merchandise or reporting.
  • Other members and the public, as described in §4.
  • Authorities and advisers, to comply with the law or protect the rights and safety of Team1, our community or others.
  • A successor organisation if Team1's activities are transferred.

6. International transfers

Team1 is based in the United States. Your information may be processed and stored in the United States, the European Union and other countries where we or our providers operate, whose data-protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, see §13 for the safeguards we use.

7. Retention

We keep personal information as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law, for example for accounting, fraud prevention, disputes or legal claims. We may anonymise information and then use it indefinitely, for example for statistics.

8. Your choices

  • Members can edit their profile and the visibility of each field in the member portal settings.
  • Every newsletter contains an unsubscribe link.
  • You can ask us to access, correct or delete your information by emailing privacy@team1.network or opening a ticket on our Discord server (go.team1.network/discord). We may need to verify your identity, and may have to keep some information to comply with the law or protect our rights.

You may have additional rights under local law; see §13 for the EEA, UK and Switzerland.

9. Security

We protect personal information with reasonable measures, including encryption, multi-factor authentication, access controls and logging. No system, method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Users are responsible for maintaining the security and confidentiality of any passwords, biometric credentials, user IDs, or other authentication methods used to access the Website or Services. Report suspected compromises to security@team1.network.

10. Cookies

We only use strictly necessary cookies and browser storage, for example to keep you signed in, protect forms from bots and remember your theme. The events platform also sets two cookies (valid for 1 year) to recognise repeat quiz attempts and prevent duplicate feedback, so that each quiz and feedback form works as intended. You can block cookies in your browser, but the websites may not work properly without them.

11. Children

You must be at least 18 to create an account, apply or register. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes

We will post updates here with a new "Last updated" date, and notify registered users of material changes.

13. Notice to residents of the EEA, UK and Switzerland

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the GDPR, UK GDPR or Swiss data-protection law applies, and this section applies to you in addition to the rest of this policy. "Personal information" in this policy means "personal data" under those laws. Team1 (operated by Internet Friends DAO LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company) is the controller; contact us at privacy@team1.network.

Legal bases. We process your personal data on the following bases, depending on the purpose:

  • To provide our services (reviewing your application, running your account, events you register for): as necessary to perform our agreement with you or to take steps you request before signing up.
  • To run and grow our community (chapters and programmes, featuring members and events in our public communication, including photos and videos, Discord sync and attendance, website and short-link statistics, communication): our legitimate interest in running the community, which we have weighed against your rights.
  • For security, fraud prevention, protecting our rights and complying with the law: our legitimate interest and our legal obligations.
  • With your consent (newsletters and waitlists, optional profile information): you can withdraw consent at any time via the unsubscribe link, your portal settings or by emailing us.

Sources and automated decisions. Besides you, information comes from sign-in providers, Discord, Luma, and other members or administrators, for example when they record your contributions. Providing information is voluntary, but without it we cannot process your application, registration or account. We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing.

Transfers. Our main databases are hosted in the US and the EU. For transfers outside the EEA, UK or Switzerland, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (with the UK Addendum and the Swiss equivalents) or, where the recipient is certified, the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions. You can ask us for a copy of these safeguards.

Your rights. You may (i) ask whether we hold personal data about you and request a copy; (ii) ask us to correct it; (iii) ask us to delete it; (iv) request a portable copy; (v) ask us to restrict its processing; and (vi) object to its processing. These rights are subject to applicable law. To exercise them, or to complain about how we handle your data, email privacy@team1.network; we may need to verify your identity first. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.
